Energy Rodeo 2012 - College senior
I am a college senior considering going although it will be a very difficult trip to make due to a lack of time and money. Did anyone go to it last yr? Is it worth going to if your looking for a job? or is this more towards internships? Thanks!
If you want to break into the Energy industry, yes
If not, then no
Simple as that
yea thanks obviously. I was wondering if anyone had any personal stories with this the past two years or have stories could tell me more about it. I did do a search but havent really seen any in depth stories. Still considering it? I just dont want this to be an internship type event where they arent really looking for graduating senior . Are there any other events similar to this during the year?
I went last year. You had bankers, equity research, energy traders, college students, young professionals, etc. It is obviously more suited for people interested in working in Houston/ Texas, but it is not entirely energy focused.
Awesome! are you going again this yr ?
If my schedule allows it, yes. I had a great time last year and it was nice to meet WSO users as well as MSF students from Tulane and Houston. If you can spare the plane ticket and time to get away it is a great way to network in an another area.
Honestly, it might even change your goals. Houston is awesome and dirt cheap. A weekend there and equities in Dallas won't seem like a death sentence anymore.
For sure. Thanks for the help. I was really looking to go this year and had plans to but it was announced earlier this week that the Energy Rodeo would now be on the 14th and not the 7th.. I had already book a flight for somewhere else for another obligation so I would have to pay extra to change fights and pay for the difference and etc . The other thing that is holding me back is I was told.... correct me if I am wrong .......that the majority of recruiting for FT in trading is essentially done for the next yr. Although it never hurts to network and build contacts, I am looking for a job as an energy analyst / junior trader asap if there any still avail lol.. Basically trying to get a feel for wether it would be worth all my troubles to attend. As of now Im leaning into going but I just want to hear more opinions on it. Did anyone happen to score any internships/ FT positions from it last yr by any chance?
I hear the energy programs from Tulane and UHouston are legit.
AV1623 you should message monty09, believe from reading previous posts on this forum, i think he has a vested interest in hosting this event. Should be able to provide you more granular details around this due to his previous involvements.
If you go to the Rodeo solely to find a job you will probably be disappointed and annoy some people along the way. If you go to network a bit and learn a little more you will come out very satisfied with your investment. I went last year and will be going this year as well. Monty puts on a great event with some extremely impression participants and attendees.
^^^^Everything happy said was spot on. You will have the opportunity to meet BSD's as well as several young professionals. I do believe they have 2 firms who are holding a few spots for interns, but you might wanna give Monty a shout on that.
I went last year and will be going again this year.
Looking at the program schedule, i'm very interested in the panel discussion on energy trading. Just booked my ticket and price had dropped to $50! Good deal! Flying in from Toronto, first time so looking forward to this event. Anyone else coming in from Toronto?
I'm likely to attend as well however I'm yet to buy a ticket. l strongly regret neglecting last year's event and I'm intent on leveraging all possible means to make the trip this year. If I may ask, where did you buy the $50 flight ticket from TO to Houston? I'd certainly be interested as well since all the flight options that I've come across quite expensive, costing between $500-650.

^^^He was referring to Monty dropping the Rodeo ticket price to $50.
How naive of me. At the same time, I usually buy bus tickets from Montreal to Toronto for about 60 cents (plus a $1 booking charge) by booking my ticket a month or two in advance, and my mom used to get $1 jet blue flight tickets from Toronto to NY back in '02/'03 due to a promotion that they had.
