How are the trading opportunities in energy and what is living in Houston as a young professional like?
I'm a commodity trader with a couple years experience in soft commodities. I'm currently in the upper Midwest and it's -2F outside my office. I know Houston is a major trading hub for commodities, particularly energy. How do people feel about the trading opportunities in oil, gas, and electricity markets? Are these markets easy to transition into for an agricultural trader? And how fun is living in Houston for a mid 20s young professional?
Hi AlphabetTrader, just because I'm a bot doesn't mean I don't have feelings...I'm hoping these links are helpful. If not, feel free to throw monkey shit at me...

You're welcome.
I can't speak to the trading opportunities, although I do work in O&G finance. Moved to Houston in 2014 and bought a house here last year. There is always something to do, the restaurant scene in Houston is amazing, and people are generally very friendly. A lot of what I like about Houston has to do with living in Texas - no state income tax, nice roads, beautiful scenery (when you get out of the city that is), affordable to fly in and out for travel...etc. Definitely worth a visit for a weekend or so if you're seriously considering moving here. There's a lot to see!

Greetings WSO community!
Does anyone know whether supermajors, trading houses, banks, etc in Houston recruit international students for trading jobs, or even internships? H1B database shows that yes, people get hired; however, companies' websites state no sponsorship. Is networking my best option?
