Enough upside to change careers into PE at my age?

Is there enough upside to changing careers at 37 years old into IB or PE, even in Portfolio Operations?

Background is that I'm a 37-year old middle manager who has spent my career so far working at public corporations in the software industry. My undergrad was in mathematics and 12 years later I earned an online MBA from a well-known public business school (ranks between 20-30). I grew up without any exposure and had no prior career interest in finance until my eyes were opened last year when I was brought in to a PE portfolio company. My data modelling and analysis talents were quickly recognized and I worked closely with the Operating Director to trim a lot of fat and get quick results to turnaround the company. It was thrilling and so much fun, I couldn't believe I was being paid to do the work.

Meanwhile, I've since befriended a semi-retired broker who is encouraging me to use my network of qualified investors and entrepreneurs to just start my own boutique advisory firm. He can affiliate me and sponsor me for licenses and introduce me to his clients.

I've been able to achieve most of whatever I've set my mind to in my career. Before I call my old Operating Director, I want to know if I'm putting myself on a fool's errand. I live in the South in a mid-sized city. $150k/yr salary currently. Married w/ no kids. I can move anywhere.
