Entry Level Equity Research Associate Timeline

Long time reader, 1st time poster...

I will be graduating in June 2013 from a non-target business school - large alumni base and I come from a well connected HS. I have worked at two trading firms and have had exposure to both equity and fixed income. I realized through these internships that I don't want to be a trader and that I like the research side of business.

The snafu at hand is I will be studying abroad in Europe from early September to mid-December (I know it is a major recruiting time, but never in my life with I have the chance to live in Europe for 3 months...I have the rest of my life to find a job).

This is what I was thinking of doing to try and land a job before graduation (or as soon as possible):

From now until the end of September reach out to as many alumni/friends/networking contacts/etc. and gain more information and contacts at different firms.

In November begin contacting different firms regarding the recruitment/hiring process. I can re-contact those I reached out to in August/September and let them know I am interested in their firms from everything they told me and what I have learned - ask them for a contact to learn more about the recruitment process.

For the firms I do not have a contact for - I will call the company and try to talk to HR to learn more about the recruiting processes and try to get my resume through. Otherwise - I will apply directly online to those I cannot find a contact to.

Hopefully by contacting them in mid-late November I can set up a phone interview for early December (I will have an international phone in Europe) or later in December when I return from Europe.

This also gives me a solid 2-3 months to brush up on my financial modeling and accounting for technical interview questions.

Thought??

I think... one thread wouldve been enough.

I just stand outside HR's window, look emo, hold a boombox above my head and play this. Usually receive an offer immediately. Extra signing bonus if performed in the rain.

Ps. your plan is fine, just execute.
