Entry-level pay cut
Fellow monkeys,
Interned at one boutique last summer and received return offer. However, the base pay was 30% lower than previous years. It’s only my regional office (Continental EU) and there’s only one new hire, me.
Haven’t signed the contract so HR wanted to call me tmr. Apparently there is no alternative for me at the moment. What should I do?
Appreciate any help.
Try to negotiate a pay increase, really weird that they are cutting your pay like that. If you have no other offers, I would accept and instantly begin recruiting with another firm, as soon as bonus season hits you bounce.
Thanks. Tbh I feel humiliated. I mean you may cut my bonus but trimming 30% base off is ridiculous.
Accept. Keep looking for other roles. This is a situation where it would absolutely be acceptable to reneg. Just disrespectful or it’s a sinking ship, either way this is a huge red flag.
Yeah I just regret that I stopped looking for other opportunities when I knew what the return offer decision would most likely a few months ago.
Is base lower than what they offered you directly previously? If so then state that and that you're unhappy about it. If not, and you just heard from others what base is, then say that the base pay is really under market and that you're not happy about it. Then if they stand their ground accept and start looking.
