ER Outside of NY?

Is there any chance of gaining valuable ER experience without moving to New York (i.e. living in a metro area like Philadelphia)? DO BB satellite offices typically do ER (I'm guessing not....)?

ER jobs exist in many places. If you are talking about just sell side, it is mainly limited to NYC, SF, LA, Chicago, and Houston and Dallas (energy) with some sporadic one off locations as well. If you are talking buy side, it's the same plus Boston, several cities in Connecticut, Atlanta, etc.

There are BB offices in SF, and I think LA. Goldman has ER offices in Salt Lake as well.

There are some hedge funds and mutual funds in Philly, but I don't know of any SS ER jobs there.

I've heard that there are places in D.C. as far as aerospace/defense and government services go. Stifel, for example, if I recall correctly.

I do not live in NY and have found the ER experience I am currently in to be fantastic. Working for an independent shop, and have learned a lot and continue to learn a lot. Yes, the sheer volume of positions in NY far exceeds other places, but the quality of the experiences elsewhere are still strong in my opinion. Of course, the quality will depend on both (a) the shop you work for; and (b) the analysts you work with/learn from.
