ER training
I really want to build a career in finance but I’m not sure which field I can best perform in. I recently moved from Corporate Finance to Equity Research (with the goal of becoming a portfolio manager), but there is no training in my new company. They just tell you what your sector is then you’re left on your own to do the research. It's only been a while and I'm sure there's a learning curve. I know the basics of where to start – read financial reports, news, watch the market. But for someone new in research, putting everything together and making a recommendation from all that data isn’t easy. Is ER training really like this (kind of like a throw them in the water so they can learn how to swim type of training) and not a mentorship type of training?
I'm doing ER in my firm and yes I was thrown in the water left to swim with very minimal guidance (aka the "guidance" I had was the other analysts dragging me along to their meetings with corporates and I observed how they asked questions, etc). Unless someone else can chip in with their own experience, I believe all analysts go through this then?
