Evercore Culture Update
Like title - anyone who currently works at or recently exited out of Evercore please share. Heard from a close friend who quit after less than a year for a MM IB with good hours & culture that Evercore (in their opinion) is going downhill because of non-collegiate senior hires chasing after rando deals for bonuses. The friend’s hours was like a horror story.. Wonder what’s the update for my WSO monkeys
sounds about right for the Houston office lol
What the fuck is "non-collegiate senior hires?" Senior hires that aren't related to a college?
Think about the word collegial
Absolute sweatshop just like every EB
Ny or Houston?
NYC, Houston, and Menlo Park are all crazy sweaty.
EVR houston can be sweaty / a lot more chill depending on your staffings (obviously). Personally knew some analysts were averaging ~70/week, some were a lot more.
Ranges from sweaty to very sweaty depending on how well perceived you are in a group from what I know. Decently supportive of exiting (understanding based on analysts traditionally having 90%+ churn after the 2 years), but still banking - if they want work from you and you don’t have cover (which is kind of an issue with how generally understaffed many of the banks are right now) it’s going to lead to some uncomfortable conversations
Any anecdotes from specific nyc groups?
Tech is very tough (lot of departures even last year’s starts). Have heard the smaller groups had it really rough too with so much coming in.
Sweaty AF. OP friend is right - top heavy culture chasing every deal under the sun with total disregard for juniors lives.
I have so many disrespectful and crazy emails saved down...
How is RX culture compared to PJT/HL?
Over half of last year’s class of analysts has quit. Not sure of the turnover at those other shops though.
This is across M&A also? Saw a few get pe and hf
I thought evercore was known for having the best culture?
Thought so too but that was largely 3 years ago before pandemic exits and crazy hiring spree recently... their culture seems really diluted can see a huge difference from talking to college alums 3 years ago vs. now
Would say TPH has the best culture in Houston, but culture is of course personal preference to a certain extent. Founders are leaving though, and that may hurt things longer term. Simmons also ok I believe, but less competitive and OFS is struggling. Jeff, GS, most BBs kind of rough culture wise. Just what I’ve heard. Also thought Evercore was fine on culture side, strong dealflow and pay with decent culture, but maybe I’m wrong on that.
I interned there this past summer so I only got the 10 week Zoom experience, but I thought culture was overall pretty positive. Yeah, you're going to get worked hard, but it's banking?? Out of about the 15ish employees across my deal teams, there was only 1 noticeable asshole. I felt like the VPs and Associates felt bad if the Analysts and I had to work on Saturdays, and if someone made me do something that wasn't actually necessary, they were apologetic about it. There were definitely times in which someone would tell me not to process a set of comments till the morning and to get some rest. I did get a sense of camaraderie from my deal teams. I think things may be pretty group dependent, though.
Culture has deteriorated - avoid Tech especially.
any groups have retained a somewhat good culture?
