Evercore vs. DB vs. Centerview vs. Citi for SA

Hi guys,

Friend has these offers. Obviously not me as you can tell from my post history since I've gone through FT recruiting already and will be at a boutique for FT. Hence the reason I was biased and told him to take Evercore.

Which do you guys think?

I'd take Centerview - I am not 100% sure what their dealflow has been lately, but I assume it is excellent. And, in any case, they win on culture and comp.

I might consider Evercore if you really wanted to work on restructuring (and thought you could get placed in that group). But I would think long and hard before turning down Centerview for anything.

My order would be:

(1) Evercore or Centerview (2) DB (3) Citi

Of course, this is dependent upon group placement, but if they were all generalist offers this would be my preference.

So all of you want to stay in banking long term then?
  1. Just because they encourage you to stay long term, doesn't mean you have to. There's plenty of Centerview alum at various PE funds.

  2. A lot of Centerview employees don't feel the need to leave. The culture is great, and you are paid WELL above street. There's not the same incentive to leave as there is at other investment banks.

Good point. But banking is still banking.

Centerview generally expects their analysts to stay on longer-term than the other banks. That said, they pay extremely well and treat their employees well (though you can still expect banking hours). In short, if you are planning on exiting, Evercore might be the more natural choice, but Centerview is definitely the trendy place to be these days.
