Exit opps for portfolio management roles?
Hi all,
I've got an interview for a PM role within a large private credit fund coming up. Recruiter & job spec indicate that it's ancillary to the deal team, where the focus is mainly on managing existing lendings, valuations and etc. There's a bit exposure to investment decision as well (10-15% time allocation at associate level), but I suspect it's more to do with how new lending fits in with existing portfolio. While this seems to be an interesting opp, the real fun is in the origination team of course. However, I looked up a few people who left the team and majority of them seem to end up in the same PM team just in another fund (albeit a more senior role).
Hence my question - is it REALLY difficult (i.e. not a natural path) to move to origination from PM team? If so, what tends to be the main obstacle (i.e. deal experience?)
Thanks
