Considering options here. I'm really interested in the debt side and would be happy with either place, but I was wondering if there are significantly different exit opps if I ultimately wanted to switch to another company or the equity side?

LifeCo will offer better job security. CMBS on the other hand will offer higher upside to developing a larger professional network. LifeCo’s tend to stick with legacy accounts, whereas CMBS shops tend to be all over the place trying to win deals. On the other hand, all the major LifeCo’s are Fortune 100 companies so the name recognition should help with exit ops versus some small CMBS conduit. If I had to rank, it would be top CMBS bookrunners (Wells, Deutche, JPM etc), LifeCo’s (MetLife, Pru), then everyone else. As for exit ops, I’ve done UW at a LifeCo and its pretty vanilla.
