exiting highly specialised sector banking

hello all,

i've been trying to solve this problem for some time now and wanted to try my luck with the gurus on this forum. i've been in highly specialised sector banking (oil and gas) for about 5 years now and have been trying to exit with no luck. the m&a market is pretty dead where i'm based which means very little dealflow, plus there are very little lateral opportunities on the market. it seems however to be very difficult to convince recruiters to put me up for non-oil and gas related opportunities, and i've not heard back from any PE / VC shops that i've applied to at all.

any suggestions on how i should go about trying to transit out of this career? thanks!!
