Experienced Canadian Analyst looking for a new job

Background: 5 years experience an junior analyst, I have my CFA Charter, 1 year left doing a masters in Finance part-time. My firm is about to be bought and I am fairly certain I will be let go. There have been talks for +6 months about the acquisition but it has been really slow. It's a smaller company and a lot of the more senior/key people have been given incentives to stay (I have not).

Job Hunting: I have been casually job searching for the past 4 - 5 months, mostly just responding to positions that interested me on workopolis, efinancial careers, etc. Which is usually 1 job every two weeks. I am a bit picky, because I am on the buyside and I don't want to make a move down or a move that will take me forever to get back to where I currently am at.

Networking: My finance network is really shallow. I have 2 friends in finance and I don't want to bug/pressure them into making them help me. (I don't really think they would be able to help much). Other people that I know (acquantainces) in departments that don't interest me (corp. finance, treasury, sales, etc.)

Where do I go from here? I have received 1 call back and gotten zero interviews. I have tried a few headhunters and they have not been helpful.

I am looking for advice on how to proceed

(I had a few tabs open and this should have been posted in job hunting section, sorry)
