EY Transaction Real Estate
Does anyone have any insight into EY's transaction real estate group? I know it is part of their transaction advisory services business line but trying to figure out what their focus is. Is it glorified appraisal work and fair value consulting or do they actually consult on live deals (IE due diligence, modeling, capital markets).
have worked at another big 4's comparable practice: it is more the former than the latter but they will all say they do the latter as well. engagements are mostly PPAs, fair value opinions, and third party reviews of appraisals.
Was it a worthwhile experience? What were your exit opps? Thanks for the input.
I would check out this thread: http://www.wallstreetoasis.com/forums/real-estate-transaction-teams-at-….
I interned with one of these groups over the summer, so I cannot speak for exit opps. I also can't say that i thought it was totally worthwhile. Didn't experience much of a transactional or deal making aspect to the work. Exposure to clients is also fairly limited given that in most cases your "client" is an audit team who has a client with real estate assets that you are taking a look at on their behalf. All this being said, i think EY has the biggest real estate practice of the big 4 in the US, so your experience with them could be better.
It's not bad experience, but I really don't know anyone in acquisitions with that type of background. Depends on your goals I guess.
You'll get more exposure at a traditional brokerage shop than EY.
A good friend of mine worked in TRE (EY'ers say "tree") and after two years left to do re investments at a very large hedge fund. Worked out well for him.
All very helpful. I worked at a top 3 brokerage in investment sales before going back to graduate school. From the interview process, seemed liked this position would be more leverageable than an Argus jockey at a brokerage firm. Just worried about being pigeonholed.
Our head of treasury/accounting is from a similar background but his job has no involvement with financings or aquisitions. just keeping track of the money and financial reporting.
May be usefull to get into the debt side? I dont know.
So you can certianly work for a RE company with that background but probably not jump right into aquisitions...Maybe the debt side?

I posted in the thread referenced above. Key points: good foundation to go elsewhere. Former colleagues have gone on to do asset management, acquisitions, CMBS lending, development, and valuation. All depends on your personal goals, your background, the projects you work on, and the connections you make.
Wanted to bump this old thread - anyone know what expect for the interview? Also what does the day-to-day look like and exit opps?

EY Transaction Real Estate Superday (Originally Posted: 10/15/2017)
Hi everyone,
This Friday I will have a superday with EY's Transaction Real Estate team. There will be 3 behavioral interviews and a 30 minute excel test. I believe that I will be fine on the behaviorals, but does anyone have insight into what to expect for the excel test portion? I have a solid understanding of excel based on past internships, but would like to know if there is anything in particular I should focus on studying. Thank you.
Hey GratefulEd, I'm the WSO Monkey Bot and I'm here since nobody responded to your thread! Bummer...could just be time of day or unlucky (or the question/topci is too vague or too specific). Maybe one of these topics will help:
More suggestions...
Fingers crossed that one of those helps you.
EY Transaction Real Estate Team interview (Originally Posted: 09/27/2017)
Hi,
Does anyone have any insight on what the interview looks like for EY's Transaction Real Estate Team? I have an interview with them this Friday and am quite keen on working within the Big 4 in a real estate role. I believe a consulting real estate background would give me a unique skill set, which is why I am very excited to interview for this role. Any help would be greatly appreciated - thank you.
