F500 FLDP to PWM Help
WSO,
I'm currently finishing up my 2-year FLDP program in a T3 city and have been trying to break into PWM. I have a relatively strong resume with another F500 internship and a strong GPA from a non-target. I have also completed my CFP coursework with intentions of taking the exam when I get into the industry.
I've had two great interviews for junior/ admin roles that didn't come to fruition due to a hiring freeze for one, and lack of experience for the other. Given that there aren't a ton of opportunities with long-term growth potential, I've recently resorted to cold e-mailing advisers at local RIA's. I guess I'm looking for advice/ feedback/ encouragement since this transition is going to take a little more gumption than I anticipated. Thanks in advance for the help.
I'd be looking at larger more structured programs in an NYC/Chi/Bos/CT suburb area...their wealth management programs (MS, ML, GS, UBS) are typically churn and burny, leading to ridiculously high attrition. They'll usually give pretty much anybody with a half-decent background a look, and if you can shmooze in an interview and prove you have the capacity to sell, they'll take a chance on you cause why not. If you're looking for exclusively PWM positions on an UHNW team with a pre-existing book, you'll need to do a little more nuanced searching and may need to take a client services role on an advisory track to get a team to give you a look.
