Fall Recruiting for Sophomores
I'm planning my networking trip and am attempting to put together some accelerated interviews for late August. Is this too far in advance from the typical fall recruiting season? My school is a non-target so we have no ocr.
I know most SA's are junior summer, what is the likelihood of getting a position sophomore summer? I feel I have decent exp; boutique AM, BB PWM, Fund of Funds SA
From what I understand it is never too early to start networking, but if you do start early you better make sure they remember you by a) making a good impression in the interview and b) keeping in contact. I would, however, defer to someone with greater expertise.
Fall recruiting is for FT -_-
Oh, I was under the impression that recruiting for SA began fall semester and transitioned into interviews/superday's in the winter? This isn't correct?
Some consulting firms recruit in the Fall for Summer, but most IBD is winter (December-January, mostly January). If you go to a top 20 school or top-5 business program, it's definitely possible. Network.
Thanks. I don't go to a target, but I'm definitely working hard trying to network my way in. Since you mentioned consulting, would an internship at a firm like booz allen in their korea location position me better for an IBD SA than something like a boutique M&A shop or a PE shop with a 100mm fund?
You can still network and set up informational interviews. I would probably start in October and November. August recruiting is for FT. Accelerated interviews for SA are late November (Thanksgiving) and in December. I know a person who networked starting in June. He had a few interviews in Dec., but most were in Jan and Feb. like everyone else. I also know people that started networking in mid-Dec and they had similar results in terms of getting FO interviews for 2/3 of the BB; although, he interviewed with a lot more elite boutiques.
Depending on how far from NYC you go to school, the best course of action is to network aggressively through email and then plan you networking trips to NYC during your Fall break AND Christmas break. Also know that traveling in NYC is very easy and informational interviews usually last 1-2 hours depending on how many people you meet and what their day is like. It should not be a problem to schedule 3 or more informational interviews in a day provided you schedule the first one early.
Good Luck.
When does the first interview usually begin for FT?
Thanks for the insight gekko. I'm transferring, so how do I go about presenting my education when I won't have a gpa until december? Nevertheless, my current gpa is not that stellar from a no-name school...
