Family Office a Good Next Step?

Currently in SS ER; looking to make the move over to BS. Are Family Office (<500M AUM) hedge funds generally a good next step in my career/a solid place to learn how a hedge fund invests/operates? What would exit opps look like?

Thanks for the insight!
