Vista/TB some may disagree, but having specialized experience in a strong PE sector is knowledge that all the MFs will value. As you move up in your career, firms will value that specialized skillset and that skillset can be implemented across growth, LMM, MM, UMM, and MF. If you look in any industry the people who do one thing really well get paid the most. It's why cardiologists and anesthesiologists get paid more than pediatricians. Gaining that specialized skillset from the two best software PE firms is more valuable than the salary you get. Also, as an analyst/associate, both firms have dedicated large cap/MM/LMM and growth funds that their Junior PE professionals can work across. Many firms don't have a dedicated software vertical, and that's where you can carve out roles that didn't even exist at other firms with your niche expertise.
