Fatal interview mistake?

If you told them specifically that you "didnt get an offer", then I would be worried... Saying that you are interviewing with other firms in the same industry shows that you are a competative candidate... But if you then go and say that you didnt an offer from a similar firm they will then start questioning why you were not wanted by said firm, and then probably be like, "Well if they didnt want him neither do we, cus they probably know something we dont."

Saying that you interviewed in other industries sometimes is a turnoff though, because they want to see dedication... But in economic times like these, where jobs are few and far between, they understand graduates need to cover all bases...

So I wouldnt worry too much, unless you specifically said you didnt get an offer... Then I would start looking elsewhere...

Yep, I specifically said it. However, I think the final round interview was partly to feel out if I would accept an offer should one be extended. So perhaps it isn't completely damning. Any other thoughts?

I disagree with Mr. Green. It didn't help you to say that you didn't get an offer, but it's by no means a dealbreaker in my opinion.

Thanks, that's comforting to hear. What's unfortunate is that I think I dominated the rest of the interview, so if I don't get it, I'll be convinced this is why. And that will suck.

slash, i went through a similar feeling with another interview for trading. i was asked a question about my risk appetite for which I knew the answer he was looking for, but for some reason, i said something that was completely irrational. however, the rest of the interview, and the other several interviews, made up for the blunder and i was given an offer. don't dwell on the mistake, and stay positive.

I think it is a dealbreaker, but report back and tell us what happens. Whenever I was asked about other firms, I always stayed vague, said I was exploring several options, all of them consulting and also said I would prefer not to disclose names of individual firms when pressed on it. They never followed up and insisted on names or results.

Yeah, I'll let you know. It's one of those things where I'd been through two rounds of cases, done well, and then had a final round over the phone with partners as a "final screen", given that this was, and I quote, "an exceptional year" (that's what I was told, although I may have just been on the fence in the first place). Anyway, I'll be pretty pissed if I screwed it up right at the end like this.

We'll see what happens. Regardless, this is a mistake that I'll never make again, that's for sure. Sometimes, unfortunately, that's how you learn.

relax; this is not going to be your dealbreaker. esp not at a consulting firm, and one where you got through 2 rounds already.

not getting an offer from another app process isn't something i think reasonable people would hold against you--after all, we've all gotten declined for jobs before.

i would be more concerned if you had an internship and didnt get an offer when everybody else did.

This is MBB and you weren't flown to the office for a final interview with partners? Was 2nd round at the office?
