Morgan Stanley Online Reasoning Qualifications
Ok,so I just applied for a summer analyst position at Morgan Stanley in London, in the IM division, had the online reasoning tests today, and I am not happy at all with how it went, my only excuse being that I haven't done much practice before and it was the first real psychometric testing..
Anyways, in the numerical reasoning (20Q in 20 min.) I attempted about 15-16 questions and I think about 12-14 are correct. As for the Logical Reasoning test (24Q in 12 min.), I attempted 20-21 and again I think I nailed about 18-19..
Do you think it's enough to get an interview offer, considering my resume is strong (excellent academics + some work experience)? Or is there a higher score needed to pass these tests?
Failed MS General Reasoning Test
Generally speaking, our users shared that if the OP's estimated score was true that the score would likely not be high enough and suggested that the OP spend time practicing these tests.
I believe the pass mark is around 13/20, but to be honest those tests are so damn easy there is no excuse for not completing them all and getting 85%+. Either way, as far as I am aware if you don't pass the tests it doesn't matter how good your resume is, you aren't getting through. If you aren't completing all 20 well within the 20 mins I'd advise doing more practices.
I've done the SHL and kenexa test a billion times and yet I still managed to fail LZ/GHL/RS/EVC's LDN test even though I passed it for the same company before for an internship. Was I mad? Yes. Did I work on it? I'll let you guess my answer.Point is, stop making excuses and start working on it. Nobody, no matter how often you'll read it, manages to get a 100% on these tests without at least taking a prep test and getting comfortable with the format.
It's just stupid if you don't.

Thanks for the advice, I'll definitely prepare a lot more before the next online reasoning test, I'm just so angry with me for my performance today, especially since I'm doing maths at university..
One more thing, there was a question today that I thought it was rather tricky and I am still unsure of the correct answer, maybe you could help me. So there was some data with percentages of employers at company X in various departments, including dept. Y, during various years; and the question was to say during which 2 consecutive years there was the max increase in no. of employers in dept. Y. In terms of percentages, the max increase was of 5% one year, however we didn't know the actual no. of employees each year. So should I have assumed the no. of employees remained the same, or should I have chosen "cannot say"?
Thanks a lot!
Assuming I understood what you're asking, the answer is cannot say. Example: Assume there's only 2 departments, X and Y. In 2005, 98% of the employees were in department X and the remaining 2% of the employees were in department Y. In 2006, 96% of the employees were in department X and the remaining 4% of the employees were in department Y. In 2005 there were 100 total employees, and in 2006 there were 1000 total employees. Department X then increased by 862 employees while Department Y only increased by 38 employees.
Thanks, I also chose "cannot say" but wasn't sure, it just sounded tricky to me. Actually this wasn't the only question in the test of this kind, but fortunately I spotted the others.
Anyways, do you think that there is going to be another reasoning test at the assessment center? Cause I plan to prove (if I am offered the chance) this was rather a mistake.
Cut your losses, you' probably didn't manage a 100% on those 13-14 Qs. You didn't prepare and you were def too slow. I had to guess 2 Qs and didn't know the answer to the first one and I thought that was pretty bad. Look on the bright side, at least you (hopefully) will have learnt from this. I've done the SHL and kenexa test a billion times and yet I still managed to fail LZ/GHL/RS/EVC's LDN test even though I passed it for the same company before for an internship. Was I mad? Yes. EDIT: And yeah, the answer was "Cannot say". Does anybody remember what the answer was for the first one? I knew it was a tricky one since I wasn't able to find an answer after the first 20 seconds so I just skipped it. Appreciate any info.
Thanks a lot guys for all the feedback/suggestions, I've practised more lately and in my last two numerical tests I finished all questions in time, hopefully with a conversion rate of at least 80 - 85%.
There is one question I encountered in my last test and I am really curious about the answer, maybe some of you know what I'm talking about. So there is a table with average speed of drivers across the city (central/inner/outer zone), in different years, depending on the time (morning/afternoon/evening), and was asked to calculate the average speed of someone driving in a particular year, at a particular time, across the entire city.
I chose "cannot say", thinking that even if driver X goes all around the city, we don't know whether he has driven the same amount of time in each zone. Do you think this is the correct answer? And I also took the average speed and got 28.13, while the closest answers were 28 and 28.4, so this kind of confirmed my thoughts.
You're right
I took the test about three weeks ago and was just contacted by a regional recruiter for a phone interview. Does this mean I "passed" the reasoning test?
