Fictional or real character/ work that has inspired you
Saw this on an online questionnaire for Blackstone:
'Describe a fictional character, historical figure, or creative work that has had an influence on you and explain why.'
Having a hard time figuring out how to answer this. Should I go with something in finance or be creative?
I´d try to connect with something relatable. For example, as a boy I read a book about a famous German businessman and archaeologist, the man who found Troy. His story is very good to tell in an interview because of his journey from poverty to voracious money maker to idealistic founder of modern archaeology implies he had a dream and fought for it. There are lots of stories like that out there, just keep your eyes open.
I can’t believe someone mentioned Heinrich Schliemann here on wso... SB to you my friend
Yeah, he inspired me to never stop seeking out my luck and to never give up on my dreams. What a legend.
Be creative.
John Galt (Atlas Shrugged); Ishmael (Moby-Dick); Narrator (Fight Club, the book)
Definitely don't go for someone in finance. That is outrageously dull.
There are millennia of historical leaders and creative works to chose from. Start there. Say why that person/work inspires you and make sure one of the reasons is obviously transferable to the world of business.
I thought I'd go with Napoleon since once of his descendants works at Blackstone in London. Or with Hamilton, it's artistic but vaguely finance related
MLK is a lock.
