FIG modeling vs other sectors
Currently a FIG banker specializing in insurance companies. I have a thorough understanding of modeling insurance companies but want to get more familiar with other sector modeling for PE interviews. Will BIWS be to simple or is it worth getting to better understand the modeling process?
Anyone have any insight on how easy it is to pick up other sector modeling if proficient in insurance company modeling?
Thanks in advance.
FIG modeling will be added to BIWS in about 3-4 weeks. Insurance companies will not be covered initially because they're quite different, but there will be a full case study of JP Morgan, detailed projections, and so on. It's actually more detailed than what you would see in most cases working at a bank.
If you are just interested in FIG, you should probably wait until that new product is available on the site - you would learn quite a bit from the existing materials but they are all for normal companies and not FIG so they wouldn't be terribly helpful for you.
Commercial banks and other types of financial institutions share some similarities with insurance companies but the way you set up an operating model and the assumptions you make are quite a bit different - not terribly difficult to pick up if you already know insurance, but they are more different than, say, different types of retail or technology companies.
