Figuring out a path from credit investing to private equity

Hi Everyone,

For background, I previously worked at a BB investment bank in LevFin (specifically DCM) for 3 years. I ended up successfully moving to an established credit fund (majority CLOs). The work is interesting, pay is good from what I see others saying on this site, and the hours are unbeatable (45-50 hours/week).

My typical day includes following the market, monitoring my portfolio of companies and doing diligence on new issues to recommend adding loans to our platform.

I’ve been at my new firm for 6 months, but am starting to realize Private Equity is more interesting to me. Doing all the diligence on a company to buy $10-50mm of a loan and get paid L+300 for a year before getting repriced doesn’t seem as intriguing as buying an entire company to help grow the business.

My question is: are there others who have gone from the credit investing side to private equity? Is there a natural path to take? I only have 4 years of experience now and don’t want to pigeon hole myself into one area before it is too late.

Thanks
