Final PE Interview: Reaching out to Principal for Update

Hey all, so I had a final interview with a small PE fund about 7 days ago. Interview had gone quite well but yet to hear back. HR is quite useless in this part of the world and I reached out for an update but no response. One of the senior interviewers had given me his biz card and asked me to get in touch if I had any additional questions. I am thinking of dropping the interviewer a text or a Whatsapp message asking for an update. Is this a bad idea? If not, how should I frame my message? Thanks all! I am btw 30 years old and am a graduate of a top MBA school.

See if you can follow-up with one of your interviewers as well.

Following up with HR can be hit or miss due to variety of factors.

With smaller funds, the process for hiring someone can be elongated and they are probably interviewing other candidates as well before making a final decision. This is basically what happened to me when I interviewed with a small PE fund a few years ago and it took the firm a few weeks to get back to me.

Thank you for your response. Do you recommend reaching out to interviewer now or should I wait? It’s been 9 calendar days, and I emailed HR a bit more than 24 hours ago.

The co. also knows I am interviewing elsewhere as I am unemployed. I have solid background though for this region and I am sure I had nailed my interview. I am thinking of saying I have an offer to accelerate the process but also mentioned to firm they were my top priority at my final interview which is true. Would you recommend this?

For more context, after all my previous rounds, I had to write to them a week later or two for an update and I was told that I’d passed. There is no official process and I got looped in via my cold email to a senior guy there

I would give HR a few days to respond.

If not response from HR, follow-up in an email with one of the people who interviewed you.

DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT say you have another offer if that is not true. If you do have another offer, then you can mention it and reiterate that the PE would be your top choice (You do not have to mention details regarding the other offer if your are asked). I was in your shoes not too long ago and things fortunately worked out for me. Patience and persistence is the key. Keep pushing ahead with other processes your are in/

I'd love to hear a view on if I should follow up with the interviewer requesting an update but also "offering to share references if you think it would be helpful to talk to in the context of my candidacy". Is that a good idea? I have references from senior folks at my firm. Or would it come across as presumptuous? I had mentioned this in my first call almost 2 months so may have slipped the radar. Thanks all!
