Finance newsletters and etc to subscribe to in order to stay in the loop and be able to talk about stuff during recruiting?
I’m from a non-finance family in the midwest and am a rising sophomore so i would like to subscribe to some newsletters or something in order to keep in touch and just broaden my understanding. Reading this stuff seems like a great way to be able to understand how everything comes together and be able to talk about stuff in a more organized way. Also, it might save me in an interview when we’re talking about something basic but random, and I don’t know it because it’s not in the realm of standard interview prep. Also I do enjoy reading this stuff sometimes.
currently read Money Stuff and Petition. Any others?
WSJ for the US and FT for the UK. These 2 I guess are default options. Then comes Bloomberg and MarketWatch (good for markets), The Economist (good for politics, macro), Reuters (it is free). + follow their pages in Twitter and Instagram to take a glance at news.
While these are good sources to get news, it can be difficult for someone new to finance to understand these articles.
Subscribe to MorningBrew for a daily update on markets & the most important news activity. They do a good job of explaining. There’s a lot of other newsletters, but MB is the most common
Fair point, I agree
Morning Brew, WSJ, litquidity's newletter
litquidity’s the best
The Daily Peel
Second Morning Brew recommendation, although these days it's largely just general news rather than financial. WSJ you can get a very discounted rate as a student and is the gold standard for financial current events and M&A news.
WSJ costs $4/month with the student discount, great value imo. Also second the morning brew rec, but if you really want to find deal info see if your school has a CapIQ subscription and you can filter by deal size, industry, the IBs involved, etc. Super helpful to find deals to talk about in interviews and cover letters.
