Financial advising/Investment advising: what's it like? No BS assessment
I am one of the poor bastards that graduated May 09, and I've had a few ER interviews since then, but nothing has bit. I'm studying for the Level 1 CFA exam now, but I really need employment soon.
I got an interview coming up with a local firm whose position is an "investment advisor trainee", which sounds like financial advising. What I really want to do long term is research or private equity, so this isn't an ideal job--but at the end of the day, it's a job, and that sure as hell beats my current lifestyle of scanning SimplyHired.com and so forth.
For those of you who have worked it, what's the real deal on being an investment advisor/financial adivsor? I have applied to some corporate-side finance jobs as well (since I think it would be more analytical), but again, nothing has really bit yet.
