Financial Analyst @ F50 or BO (Operations) at BB?
Hi everyone,
I just recently received two offers for FT: one at a F50 Aerospace Company as a Finance Analyst and the other in a Back Office role as an "Operations Analyst" at JPM. For the F50 I will be working specifically as a Procurement Finance Analyst working on the buy side of the company doing pricing and estimation and things of that nature while the Back Office role is a non-IT Operations role at JP Morgan.
I am hoping to pick the offer that would allow me to transition in to a solid MBA program and then to enter IB post MBA. The Operations gig sounds nice because I have opportunities to network with Front Office/IB people within the firm and when the time comes (if networking properly) I can leverage those networks but the F50 position sounds nice because its actually a finance role and if I do get the opportunity to enter investment banking post MBA I feel like having some sort of finance experience will help.
Then again these are probably delusions of grandeur, which is why I am asking you guys what would be the better option for me?
Any suggestions/comments/warnings/ would be great
Thanks
Why do you want to do IB?
I would have to say F50 hands down. You're drastically overestimating a) your opportunities, and b) your ability to network into a FO role at your BB. You're going to be shunted so far away and your role will be so unrelated it's not going to help at all. At least with the F50 role it sounds like substantive work. I'd have to imagine that would look much better to an MBA program.
This isn't even a debate. Sign the F50 offer today.
BO is a never ending carrot on the stick and, even if you make it to FO, the two years spent in the BO will be blanks on your MBA Application. The F50 is a great first job and will serve you well when speaking to Adcoms.
Just FYI it's easy to figure out which company you're talking about from that description. And that company is exceptional, if you're at all interested in Aero/Def, definitely go for it.
It could be Boeing or United Tech. and both are exceptional. My father worked for one for over 10 years and they paid for his MBA while making good money.
F50 position hands down.
I have a good guess as to which your dad works for. And I know which one because of the program he's in
You're creepy.
You bring out the best in me. But in all seriousness, some people don't want to give away that much info and don't realize how easy it is to figure out what someone's referring to.
