Financial engineering master degree
Hello,
Currently doing an undergrad program in law, and would like to complete change my direction to finance.
the idea studying law seemed cool to me 4years ago but now I just don’t want to and can’t do this anymore
Seriously thinking about pursuing a financial engineering master degree in US. The thing is that Im well aware of my lack of quant related background, but I’ve been good at math since I was young.
If i take prerequisite necessary math courses through coursera or Edx, will I have a shot or am i just being delusional?
To show that I am a math person and can handle the financial engineering courseswork i am also willing to take CFA. Is this a plausible plan?
Thank you
thanks
I am sorry lad, it does not seem a feasible path. Neither the CFA or coursera/ecx will help you.
Most of the programs I've seen seem to require certain classes to have been completed; some do pre-MFE courses you could try your hand at. However, you might be able to complete those courses to show your competency through community college, a post-bac math program or a second bachelors degree. As for the CFA, while a very useful work-related designation, it's not nearly quant enough for those programs and I doubt it would play a role in your admissions. MSF could be another useful way to pivot into finance if you're still school.
