Financial Modeling help - Urgent
So I have an interview for a Real estate investment position, had the phone interview and it went well so got an in person interview for this friday.
Now I get an email asking me to send them a financial model that I have built, created, or worked on so that the managers can speak to me about it.
So my request is does anyone have a link for a basic model template with which I can learn in the next few days and learn to make some basic modifications
I know this is not something that I can learn in a few days which is why I am asking for a basic model with which I can get somewhat familiar with
I would really appreciate your help guys as a fellow job seeker, thanks in advance
I don't think anyone is going to give out their own models (for work reason). You best bet is to buy this course. They have templates (shell models) and also competed ones. You still have 48 hours.
I suggest you finish the entire online course. I think it would be beneficial for you this way since you will really learn how the model really works. This will help out especially at the technical parts of the interview. Real Estate (plus Financial Institutions and Oil & Gas) modeling is very different from other type of modelings (the remaining groups Technology, Consumer, Industrial). Hope it helps. Good luck with the interview.
Question - does the group you are interviewing with know that you dont have any modeling experience? It seems they are expecting someone who can put together investment models from scratch. Its best to be honest with them.
I've heard bad things about BIWS, so not sure if you want to do that. Wall Street Prep was actually not bad. If you don't want to learn or pay, check out finance 3.0 or google damodaran's models. He has a ton floating out there and may have an RE one.
I have seen the Damodaran RE model, its dated, not very sophisticated, and difficult to understand if you dont have exp in real estate finance. BIWS actually seems legit, but it has a heavy emphasis on REITs. I just checked out WSP, I didnt see any courses that focused on RE investments. Besides, none of this info will help you learn modeling in a 2-day time frame. I wouldnt recommend any of those resources.
To RE Capital Markets: I never listed modeling as a skill on my resume, nor did they ask for it as a skill in the phone interview.
I am going to tell them that I do not have experience with modeling but I want to show some initiative by showing familiarity with a basic model atleast
financial models of devel. projects (measuring, among other things, pro forma IRRs and NPVs), to assist analysis of proposals for financial incentives; performing sensitivity analyses to corroborate and test assumptions and other pertinent information provided by applicants
this is the type of modeling inolved in the position, but they are just asking for any type of model that I have worked on
Are you comfortable with doing any one of those?
Huh. That's the type of work that's expected of a more senior hire, typically with at least 2 yrs of RE modeling exp. I am afraid your interviewer is expecting something above and beyond of what you can actually do.
