Financial Times vs. Economist for S&T SA

So I've taken an offer to do S&T SA for one of the better BBs (JPM/GS) and am trying to learn/get as much exposure to the markets as possible before I start. I already regularly read the WSJ and am reading some books such as Liar's Poker and The Handbook of FI securities, but I would like another news source. I'm trying to decide between the Economist and the FT, I would go with the FT automatically but it's just so much more expensive.

Have you checked to see if your university offers a free FT subscription to students? I'm at a target, and as long as we register with our student IDs, we're able to get unfettered access to FT's digital content (although I'm a graduate, it's my understanding that the same goes for the undergrads).

Also, I don't know if anyone else has noticed this, but I've got the FT webapp (no application available in Apple's App Store) and have never had to sign in with my login information... I'm not sure if this is a flaw of the application or if I'm missing something.

They aren't really even comparable. FT is news, Economist is weekly publication with much of it about politics, etc.

If you have WSJ though, not sure why you'd need much else unless you plan on reading for an hour or so every morning. As animalz said, free online resources will be just fine.

Project syndicate is similar to economist (and free) with some really good writers (Soros, Schiller, etc)

People demand freedom of speech as a compensation for freedom of thought which they seldom use.
