finding FT role during summer internship period

Hi guys I am about to start my summer internship program. However, I am also interviewing for full time position starting next year as a back-up plan if I cannot get the return offer from internship. My first choice is still getting the conversion from my summer internship.

I am worried that if I have accepted the full time offer before the end of the internship, and the company starts background check, my internship company will get notified and they may think that I am not interested in getting the return offer and staying at the firm.

At the same time, due to the different application timeline, I do not want to miss the FT application opportunities.

What should I do? Is my concern necessary?

If you’re a rising senior like me i don’t think it’s anything out of the ordinary to be recruiting during your summer internship. I’ve been told to begin networking w/ bankers and applying for FT positions over the duration of my internship. I guess just be sure not to piss on your own group cuz everyone talks.

What’s the timeline on your current FT offer? I’m sure these places know rising seniors are all going to be entering the FT recruiting process at multiple places.

going through the last round of interview for the FT role. the FT role will start right after the internship ends so the background check is most likely to happen during the internship period

I have this exact mentality and exact question. I'm in the same boat. Someone told me if I receive another offer definitely don't tell the internship company as they'll think you're not interested or taking the role seriously. Now that I think about it with the background check etc. I have the same worries that they'll be notified and I enjoy the company I currently work at but I really don't want to burn bridges in the industry.

Edit: I told the current company I'm interviewing with I would be starting a Summer Internship soon and they actually offered to push me on to the next round and continue the process in early August when the internship is completed along with the reasoning that they want me to apply to competing firms etc. to figure out which one is right for me and prepare for a case study, but also said I could continue over the Summer if I wanted. The way I'm interpreting this is either I'm about to get cut, or they want to see if my internship will give me transferrable skills that would make me a stronger candidate since they're both market-makers.

Are you going to wait until the end of internship to do the case study?

After they said that I said that it sounds beneficial for me to wait and develop more transferrable skills to prepare me for the case study and I look forward to staying in touch over the Summer and seeing any events they may offer, and the recruiter said sounds good she'll touch base with the team and if I want to continue the process over the Summer I could but it may be difficult since I have a full-time internship and they don't want to stress me out. She says the traders typically advise applicants to truly take their time and wait until they're ready for the case study. I haven't really heard of a finance career where it sounds like people care about you so it was nice to hear but also if I get cut then I kind of realize they were trying to let me down easy. It was a motivational interview which I usually knock out of the park but I was off my game today terribly. 80% of applicants fail the math test though so after passing that I'm hoping I'll at least have the opportunity to answer technical questions rather than behavioral.

The FT company will conduct a background check much closer to the start date. By then you would have known if you got the FT offer from your internship or no. If you got the offer, accept that and say no to the FT company (don't say where you are going). If you don't get it, continue the way it is because in a background check the current company won't know when you accepted the offer so they'll think it was just after you didn't get the FT.

But the FT company would know you signed with the internship company.
