Finding out about boutique firms?
How do I go about finding out which boutique firms are in my area? I'm trying to find out all the boutique banks and hedge funds in Portland. I have no idea where to even start. How do I found information on boutique firms?
Sorry if this is stupid but I really have no idea.
How are you a first year analyst and you don't know how to find this information? Have you never used S&P CapIQ before? You can just filter in your criteria and it will list all of it in the area. I found lists of firms in my area through that. Some of them don't have websites though.
Not a first year analyst, i'll change that. I just filled everything out real quick as I was trying to post a question earlier. No I've never used S&P CapIQ, thanks.
Is there anyway to search this information without S&P CapIQ? I don't have access to S&P CapIQ.
This is from a 2007 thread I bookmarked back in the day, but it might help.

Other ways to find local boutiques/mm/pwms (Originally Posted: 12/24/2012)
I'm a sophomore currently trying to compile a list of local boutiques/mms/pwms to contact after the holidays to look for an internship over the summer. So far I've used google maps and wso's company database. Any other tips on finding local firms?
Also one last question regarding BBs. There are 3 BBs in my area but it seems to be a mix of commercial banking/investment banking. I can only seem to find generic contact information. Is there anyway to differentiate the two (commercial/ib) or will I have to just call and ask? Thank you.
yes, you can use capital iq to grab a list of firms in your city. there should be threads on this, depending on which city. otherwise, ask someone on WSO with cap iq access to screen for you.
Ok thanks :)
Finding Boutique Shops (Originally Posted: 03/30/2011)
Does anyone know if there is a database somewhere that contains some of the small 1-10 person M&A shops?
I am having a hard time tracking down this information.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

hate to one up you hear Nouveau, but this list is more exhaustive:

add me to the list i am a one person boutique ...
BIWS database might also work if you are willing to spend the 97 bucks (not sure if it contains such small boutiques from 1 - 10 people though)
what is the bwis database?
ARE THERE ANY LARGE 1-2 PERSON SHOPS
Finding regional boutiques (Originally Posted: 10/15/2009)
I'm a non-target sophomore looking for internships in summer '10. I have contacts at some of the major banks, but that's clearly no guarantee, and being a sophomore I guess I should be happy with any chance I get (especially if it's IBD).
How do I find the regional boutiques in a particular area, say Minneapolis & St. Paul? From what I've gathered CapitalIQ is a good source, but I don't have any access to it.
Any particular strategies when cold-calling boutiques at this point of the year in trying to get an internship?
Much appreciated
There is a thread at the top of this very page, stickied, that contains extensive lists of regional boutiques. Capital IQ is also an option; someone might take pity on you and post search results here, but it would be better if you examine the above link first to see if your question has already been answered. If you love spending money, I think that m&i has some product with a list of boutiques.
Yeah I've looked at it and taken the names I could, but the list is a good number of years old.
Love spending money...its $47 comon...and it pretty good its not just a list but also other networking tools
So what do you do? -I work for an investment banking firm. Oh okay; you are like my brother, he works for Edward Jones. -No, a college degree is required in my profession
Fuck around on google with combos like: Minneapolis investment banking, Minneapolis M&A, etc.
Also, check out the city's business journals/newspapers. For example, Milwaukee has this: http://www.biztimes.com/data/8694/access-to-capital-directory.
I can tell you right now, that list is missing a few, so check out the Regional Boutiques top thread in this forum to complete the list. Good luck.
Thanks man.
