Finding what you enjoy
I am curious to hear from those of you who have worked for several years. As a first year analyst officially settling in to full-time work, I am starting to wonder what path I really want to venture down. Although I enjoy the people I work with, the work I am doing is less than exciting. Between my summer internship and full time experience, I have already been in 3 groups for extended periods (long enough to have work). I look around and I am constantly intrigued at the prospects of a new position and work. I think part of that is explained in my thrill for the chase, but does this type of thing ever end?
I know I love the markets, and that aspect of my job does not feel like work. I love talking to people and presenting, but honestly that takes a while to do. I am already considering business school after 2 to 3 years, but is it worth attending if I am not even positive what I want to do after business school? Did anyone else feel like this, and if/so was this feeling of constant "unsettled-ness" ever go away.
How long did it take you full timers to find something that you really enjoy to do?
Interested as well - not necessarily the same boat, but 1st year also, but really questioning how happy I am in this job.
I am 27 and still trying to answer that. I think it ultimately comes down to doing when you enjoy and finding a passion. Some find it earlier than others. Just keep yourself open and try different stuff. Soon enough you will stumble on a path that makes you most happy.
I too could use some help, I graduated in sp 09 and was able to land a job with a large well known bank. I graduated with a double major in Econ w/ finance and Public Policy from a pretty good school. I have been working for 7 months in pricing and while I like my job, it is just too much operations work. I want more in depth finance, and market exposure. Im not sure whether to go the CFA route, or just try and get some modeling expierence through online stuff (wallstreetprep.com) and books, then try and get a job on the IB side (hopefully) for a small company. Any and all help is greatly apprieciated, seeing as how I feel like im wasting my life and really want to do some more challenging work.
