Finra ER Exams

Have to take the Finra SIE, 63, 86, and 87 for an associate role within the next few months and wanted to know what’s the best way to approach these. Not sure exactly what program my firm will provide, but have to complete all in 90 days. Any tips/advice? Thanks in advance!

Knopman would be the best program to learn on, so hopefully they’ll provide that.

SIE, 63 and 87 are easy in my opinion. Not walk in the park easy but if you read the book, do the practice questions and get passing scores on the practice exams then you will pass more than likely. In terms of quantity the SIE will be the most between the three. I think for the 63 and 87 I studied for a little less than a week of semi-intensive studying.

The series 86 is the only exam that I would say is quite tricky. For one it’s a lot more quantitative but also the only study program available for this exam is mediocre. The material reminded me a lot of finance 101 in college but a little more tailored towards research.

The SIE and 63 are probably going to make you wonder how it relates to research… it really doesn’t. The 86 and 87 relate a lot more to day to day work you have to deal with, so they’re more engaging to study for.

Grats, gonna be honest, taking all 4 is a bit of a stretch if you are still working a FT job. if not, shouldnt be too bad.

Take the SIE, 63, 87 then 86. those first 3 should be doable with ~2 weeks of studying for each of them to be safe. take at least 3 weeks for the 86.

for all of the exams, i'd read over the book once, then hammer out as many practice questions until you are consistently scoring in the 80s. preferably mid 80s
