agreed with thhddd - any company that does this is unprofessional, regardless of whether it's a 2-year program or not. you have a good reason - however much into the stint you realized that you were more interested in AM than acq - i think any sensible employer would get it. on another note, how'd you get caught?

Since the people you are interviewing with think you still work at your old firm, I don't think they would reach out to their acquaintances to ask about you. I think it is kind of understood that you don't throw someone under the bus with their current employer like that.

You may run into trouble if you get an offer and they find out you were fired during the background check.

 

So many MDs act hard until someone wants to leave, and then they become tantrum-throwing toddlers. Unreal.

Do what you gotta do, but I have a tough time believing these guys have that much pull that they could literally cause you to move across coasts. If they are that vindictive I would be surprised if they are very successful in the biz. This kind of shit gets around quick.
