Firm with many senior contacts I had expected interviews from responded to me saying they filled up all their spots

I have been networking for this recruitment cycle since February, and thought I had been ahead of the curve on that. I made solid connections are 5 BB's, and 4 EBs.

My connections have been connecting me to more people, and at this point has 3-5 contacts at each firm, 9 at one BB I've been talking to the most. Many people have specifically said they'd talk to HR. At one firm, I had an analyst, associate, and a VP all at some people say they'd reach out to HR for me.

These were people I had spoken with numerous times. Now they are getting back to me saying they filled their entire non-target class though accelerated interviews.

A few BB's have told me they are reserving specific spots for non-targets to be done in July-August. I already know someone at my school with an offer. How can I get into this accelerated interview process?

This is my third shot at IB, have an internship this summer but pushed back graduation to have another go at NYC. Really looking for some advice.

I don't want to continuously pester people either, and up until now if they hadn't answered me I'd give them a week before sending a follow up. But nobody ever remembers UNTIL I follow up with them, and now I'm not sure what to do.

Like when someone at a firm I connected with said they'd connect me to 3 more people. But none of them could talk for a week and a half. I'm freaking out at this point because in the past friends have told me that based on what these people are saying, I should be expecting interviews soon. I've spoken with senior bankers frequently, who seem to like me. Now I send them a follow up, they don't answer, I wait a week, follow up, which they answer 4 days later.

I don't mean to seem entitled, these are some of the business people on the planet, and they are really really doing me a favor by talking to me. But 10+ days for every step of the way just...causing me to miss the deadlines. After this last email I'm worried about all the other firms. I thought I was at a point where I should be expecting an interview...not "sorry we just filled up." Firms I've been talking to for months

Help?

You thread title seems to suggest that you have many senior contacts like VPs or MDs and not analysts and associates. Many times, the analysts and associates are the main ones involved in recruiting. Senior folk are often out of the loop and by the time they get back to you, they may realize that the recruiting process is over.

Though there are definitely instances where MDs/VPs can get you interviews if they really like you, it is important to connect with analysts and associates to get the inside scoop.

You also said that you had multiple conversations with your connections. It may also make sense after a while to be more aggressive in terms of getting them to push your resume for an interview (as I'm sure you've learned from your approach).

Sorry to be a little vague in my post. To be more specific:

Most of my contacts are analysts/associates. The few alumni in IB broke in within the last 2-3 years, which is similar to the other schools in my state (who have been happy to help).

At 4 BB's I've spoken with a VP/their version of VP, one of which I've spoken with 3.

Generally the situation looks like this: 1. The analysts/associates tell me about the recruitment process, and that it is ending soon, they say they have little sway but will forward me to HR anyway. 2. VP's I've been connected with tell me the recruitment process is 2-3 months later than it is. They also say they will forward my contact info to HR.

I'm surprised its this late in the process and I haven't been getting interviews from BB's despite how many people have said they would forward my resume to HR. Generally I started with analysts, then networked with associates, then when lucky got connected to a VP.

Almost everyone says they will "forward me to HR," so many have said that in fact that I'm just wondering if that actually means anything.

You def need MD support. It would be nice to know VPs because they are the ones usually interviewing. To give you a perspective of how hard you need to appeal to these people, random students reach out constantly and I always communicate with them because I would want someone to do the same if I were in their shoes. BUT, I usually have 1 or 2 students in my mind already who i've met/known for at least one year "+". I go to bat for these students. We go to HR and tell them that they need to bring this kid in. They are the ones who have reached out since sophomore year preparing to start their career in IB. Now multiply this by 50-100 because every banker involved in recruiting has the same 1 or 2 students in mind.
