Banks sponsoring visas (undergrad)
Which banks are still sponsoring H1B visas? I haven't seen an updated post about this wrt 2019 SA recruiting so would appreciate any insight.

edit: anon_wc's post is good, is inline with everything I've seen/heard/known, though would add some satellite offices in the first bucket he mentioned may not sponsor, e.g. Moelis Chicago no longer readily sponsors
International Undergrad. Here is my experience ->
Definitely Sponsors (0 Discrimination/no quotas) ->
1) JPM 2) BofA 3) EVR 4) Moelis 5) GS 6) Barclays 7) Houlihan Lokey
Case by Case/Sponsors only if top candidate/Quota for intl students ->
1) MS 2) Citi (SF/LA doesn't sponsor, NY might) 3) Lazard (NY definitely has internationals, but I think u need to be one of the top) 4) CS 5) DB 6) PWP 7) Cowen 8) William Blair 9) RBC (Only H1B1/E-3)
Does not sponsor ->
1) UBS 2) Greenhill 3) Wells Fargo 4) Guggenheim 5) Rothschild 6) Pretty much most MMs and Boutiques
Again, this is from my personal experience! Your own mileage may vary. Out of the list JPM and BofA are incredibly supportive, so they're your best bets tbh. Most of my recruiting efforts were focused in NY, and I accepted an offer there (also recruited the west coast though).
so RBC is not sponsoring Canadians on TN even though it's a Canadian bank?
I just heard that a bunch of banks have stopped - not entirely sure about RBC. I just know that they will consider you if you have access to the H1B1/E-3 but you need to network and have access to OCR (since you won't pass the regular online app).
Good list but JPM doesn't sponsor Canadians this year (have historically taken a lot though)
Yeah this does not apply to canadians because I'm talking about the OPT -> H1B sponsorship. The TN has been having so many issues and they don't even have access to the one year OPT that all internationals in the US get.
thanks for the list. Just curious when you are filling out online apps, there are always two questions: are you legally allowed to work in the US? and do you need sponsorships now or in the future?
What do you put for those? I was wondering is it the case that if you put yes then they auto screen you out of the pool
Yes for both (legally = opt, sponsorship in the future = h1b)
Honestly if they do that then they wouldn't have sponsored you anyways. HR checks into your status once an offer has been extended and there have been many many cases where they revoke your offer when they find out you're an international.
Sucks but that's life
My international cousin graduated and had a FT position for GS in one of their Cali offices for IB. They "urged" him to transfer to their London office because of his citizenship status over there.
He wanted to stay and ended up leaving because it was more of a subtle - "do it or there might just happen to be one less spot for next year's return offers and we all know whose getting canned".
Does UBS stop sponsoring or they have never sponsored in the past?
hello i am from korea and i have to finish my army, 18month in korea. will jpm or other banks wait for that extra 18 month??
No. No job for you.

Firms Still Sponsoring TN1 Visa (Originally Posted: 05/19/2018)
Looking to compile a list of firms that are sponsoring Canadians in their incoming FT class with the TN1 visa. I understand some firms are choosing to no longer do so. Would appreciate if any current FTs or incoming FTs can share how their firms are dealing with Canadian analysts
I would guess Moelis LA isn't sponsoring anymore because they used to hire a bunch of kids from my school in Canada and they aren't hiring anyone for summer 2019. Or at least they're getting more nervous about it than they were before.
I can confirm Moelis LA took international kids this class (Not canadians since they need to go through TN which is getting fucked sideways - I'm talking about regular OPT -> H1B).
Will they take 3-4 internationals out of a class of 8-10 (or whatever it is)? Probably not.
Was sad to hear about Ivey this year -> the kids from there typically crush it wherever they go and it really sucks that they're getting caught because of a change in USCIS policy.
Entirely possible, I have no idea what their policy is for anything except TN visas.
can you go through H1B for summer internships?

Firms Offering Visa Sponsorship this SA Recruiting Cycle? (Originally Posted: 03/26/2018)
Does anyone have an idea on which BBs/MMs/EBs are hiring international students during the current SA recruiting cycle? How screwed are international students this year?
I know people assume that a lot of MMs/Boutiques don't give sponsorships, but I know a guy who landed a FT job out of an MSF program. The bank was not supposed to sponsor visas (at least that was what he thought/heard/was told by his career counselors). So I guess it really depends? If they like you/you are viewed as a good candidate, they'll still consider the possibility.
This. I superdayed with a bank that does not typically sponsor but they made an exception for me by even offering me a shot (Didn't end up getting the offer though).
For all the international monkeys out there - networking is key. Make that trip out and actually meet people and you will be surprised on how much traction you actually receive.
You are absolutely right...time to fly to NYC...
Not just this year, every year. Go do something in your home country. Get a full-time role there and then transfer into the states on a secondee assignment.
Why in the world would you go thru that hassle when there are still plenty of great banks on the street that are willing to sponsor (admit the windows are getting smaller every year)? Oh that's right, you seemed to have transferred straight from College Confidential.
Most of the BBs should still be hiring international students. Some straight up do not take international students (Barclays). Not sure about EBs but i've seen some international students go to Moelis, PJT and EVR. Those spots are very very limited though
bump
Double bump
Jp, goldman, citi, lazard, evercore, db are some places I know of that have hired international students from my school or I know people who are going there. If you name some places maybe I can look and see if any international student from my school is going there
Any insight on MS, CS, BarCap, RBC, BMO?
international and get an offer at rbc so they still sponsor.
how far in are they in their recruiting process?
Rothschild isn't sponsoring either

Yeap roth doesn't sponsor but I've heard they've made exceptions in the past.
All of them, if you're good.
agree
As a graduate student, you don't have to go through the crap undergrads have to since you qualify for a Masters degree exemption. So banks will be more open to recruiting you than undergrads. Also, if you prove yourself to be baller, the bank will find a way to make employment happen.
Hey there, can you explain what the Masters Degree exemption is? I have not heard of that thanks.
Bullshit. Most banks don't even recruit grad school students. They only do for M3 MBA, but they are mostly US citizens or Internationals who went to US undergrad and have several years of experience in either US or HK or elsewhere. So, don't expect to get recruited if you are from shitty, foreign undergrad.
Indeed. Most US employers are open to sponsoring PhDs even if they do not sponsor undergrads, as long as they need you.
Why would banks even bother hiring PhDs for IBD? lol. That's even less likely scenario than the chance of sponsoring non-target undergrad with 3.0 GPA.
yeah most of them: jpm ms gs citi barcap ubs for sure
i know fidelity does not, but that's about it
almost all quant positions at BB and even some prestigious boutiques would sponsor
I heard BoA usually don't.
can anyone confirm if HSBC sponsors intl's or canadians? an SA told me he thinks they don't sponsor anymore but would like more insight.
Visa Sponsorship for International Hires (Originally Posted: 10/24/2010)
Hello,
I am currently an MPA student at Columbia. I am a UK national currently studying on a student Visa. I am interested in going into mgmt consulting when I complete my degree. I would like to remain in the US after I graduate if possible. Does MB&B sponsor new international hires for H-1B visas for their analyst positions?
Thanks
They used to, but I don't think they sponsor anymore.
They're not sponsoring for sure.
Yes
So what are the underlying reasons as to why sponsorship plays such a big role in recruitment? Is it the expenses for the bank (Because it is relatively insignificant for an MS, Citi or CS), or the fact that the entire sponsorship process is essentially a lottery?
I have a couple buddies going through this process, and I'm curious as to why this matters.
Visa sponsorship post MBA (European) (Originally Posted: 04/10/2015)
Hi -
Making my grad school applications dependent whether or not I would be sponsored after MBA.
Any Europeans out there who have been or are being sponsored at hedge funds post MBA? Do HFs sponsor at all?
Thanks
It's a hassle. Also with TN there's no guarantee that it will actually go through, and then you've run the process for nothing / are X # of people short.
Also that domestic candidates might be equally, if not more qualified...why have to go through the extra hoops if you don't have to?
Because fundamentally banking is not the most intellectually challenging job, and that there are way too many people gunning for the few spots they have. Coupled with the fact that every international has a chance that they’ll be kicked out after a year or two due to lottery
.
yes if you prefer to do IT work
is it easier to lateral as an intl?
Do small boutiques sponsor
How to figure out if a company sponsors visa for Canadians ? (Originally Posted: 04/30/2018)
Hi everyone! I'm a junior at a Canadian target and I'd like to recruit for full time opportunities in the US, preferably at tech companies such as Google/Facebook/Linkedin/Dropbox etc. I'm interested in their rotational programs such as Linkedin Strategy and analytics (https://studentcareers.linkedin.com/careers/business/s-and-a) , and Box Rotational program etc. Do I need to reach out to the head of HR and ask them if they would sponsor visa for Canadians interested in business roles ? Does anyone here have any experience recruiting for those rotational programs coming from Canada ? Thanks so much! Any input is much appreciated.
How small? Usually not.

Please help. Can state agencies sponsor h-1b visa? (Originally Posted: 12/30/2010)
Hi all,
I am currently doing a internship under F-1 status (OPT period) with a state agency, which is a component unit of the State of Virginia. The agency should be classified as a governmental agency although its nature is non-for-profit. I am wondering if such organization is allowed to sponsor me with an H-1b Visa?
Thanks so much for your help!
Are you asking if state agencies have the legal right to sponsor visas? Not sure why you would be asking such a question here.. your best bet would be to ask your school's international/visa office or call USCIS.
Likelihood of Visa Sponsorship (Originally Posted: 07/22/2013)
Does anyone know the likelihood of H1B Visa sponsorship by PE firms?
They all can afford it but some don't have the HR base for application. You will have to do all the work yourself.
International here, offered BarCap IBD and sponsored. Target school, don't know if it helps, and STEM + GC expected during OPT period. RBC hired an international student from my school this year, so did BofA and Citi (3 offers).
...
They will ask on the application form (most the case). If you studying something straight up STEM (Math) then write it in the Education section. Otherwise, if you are taking Program like ECON with STEM, you should put it in the bracket like "STEM designated".
Centerview sponsors as well, despite being a boutique.
they don't unfortunetly
Bank of America doesn't sponsor.
That’s just false, stop spreading false information
false
Heard Guggenheim, MS and Lazard don't sponsor anymore, is that correct? (specifically referring to NY)
Guggenheim and MS never did..........?
Pretty sure MS has sponsored in the past.
Know someone getting sponsored for SA at MS IBD for 2020
