Firms Paying For Your 2nd Year as Signing Bonus

So last night I was talking to an alum from Tuck and he said that a lot of firms will offer to pay off your 2nd year of b school as a signing bonus, is this true? and its not the 20 30k some offer? I was always curious as to how on businessweek it says a lot of people graduate with 70-90k debt but this makes sense if the firm is paying..

Makes sense because it's the equivalent of them paying you "after tax" dollars. Instead of giving you $30k and having you taxed on it, they can pay $30k of tuition which would be the same as paying you $50k pre-tax...

Obviously my numbers are made up, but the concept remains.

I was an SA at one of MBB in the 2008/2009 time frame. My return offer did not include any tuition reimbursement, and neither did the offers of my classmates headed to other MBB firms. However, some of the firms in the next tier did offer to pay 2nd year tuition for SAs who accepted their offers before 2nd year OCR started. Deloitte had the most generous signing bonus + tuition reimbursement + relocation bonus package by a large margin if I remember correctly.
