First Few Years of Career

What do you think differentiated you the most early on in your career? Is there anything you wish you spent more time developing as you transitioned beyond the first ~5 years of your career? I am trying to maintain a long term view of my career as a marathon, not a sprint, where sometimes it’s easy going for a few miles and sometimes it’s tough, so any insight from buyside folks as I go through this “tough” stretch as a rising second year IB analyst to help put it in perspective / continue to focus on learning and growth like I did in my first year would be much appreciated. Thanks

Network - make sure that you make new connections and maintain the existing connections you have at your bank and with your clients.

If you are going to a non-MF PE shop, you will be in an associate class of less than 10 people and something around less than 30 IPs total. Being at a bank which will have that many IBD analysts who will go onto other finance or business careers in addition to an array of other people will allow you to advance in your career later in life through sourcing, the inside track on acquisitions, and whom you can call on regularly.
