First Interview

I've seen the topic posted before, but I want to post a new topic to receive the latest feedback.

I have my first interview next week at First New York Securities for the trader's assistant position.

What are the largest topics covered?

Any particular questions I can expect to receive in the first round? Any curveballs?

I understand what they are looking for, but any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Expect questions to be based a little on your background, but in general, don't be surprised to see a lot of probability and maybe some PVOM or bond math if you have a finance or math background.

Look for "Heard on the Street- Quantitative Questions for Wall Street Interviews". You'll quickly be able to figure out the questions in that book that you should be able to answer and the questions that you can't.

They will want to see how you handle stress. Exercise- hard- the night before and maybe take some melatonin. And if you don't know a subject or don't know how to answer a question, just say so.

They prob wont ask you any of the types of questions the guy above suggested. Will ask you more about yourself, why you are interested in trading, what you have done to educate yourself so far. Books you have read. They may not really ask you these questions but expect you to start talking and selling yourself and show you have a real interest in the markets and are aggressive. If you have been paper trading or anything and incorporate some strategies and bring them up then they are going to ask you more in depth about those strategies and how you incorporate them. Probably will ask you for a prediction on the future movement of the SP 500. If you act like a know it all they are going to burry you so if you do not know something just say you do not know. Sorry for the run ons and grammar, get over it. Best discretionary firm in the industry in my opinion. Good luck
