First Look At Telsa Model 3 Interior

Tesla has released photos of the model 3s interior, and the first thing you notice is that there is not a single button or knob. Everything is controlled through a 15 inch touch screen display. This seriously looks gorgeous, but I feel that it is not very practical that you have to take your eyes off the road to simply turn on the AC, where in a traditional car you would simply turn a knob. The interior has a large strip of wood across the dash adding to the aesthetically pleasing design. Here is the BI article, where you can see the photos.

  • What do you think? Too minimalistic?

As much as I'd like to save the environment, I'll wait until Tesla has the supply chain capacity to afford dashboards. What BMW, Mercedes and the other heavy hitters have figured out is that it's the little things that matter.

Indeed, very interesting. Thanks! I know a lot of variants to make sure in the best choice for design interior. But my best approach is like the mentioned in the article situation. That is the reason why people work on it further.

I was thinking along the same lines. I think my main issue is going to be the radio(gonna have to fiddle around with the touch screen to change stations/volume etc while driving. Also, there's no speedometer, so when you're driving your gonna have to lower ur head every minute to check your speed. It looks nice but doesn't seem very practical.

I think it's pretty sexy, but I don't like the horizontal touch screen. I think the Model S is a better looking car, inside and out, although I suppose it makes sense than the nicer car is better looking.

I personally like the conventional dashboard. Nothing is better than seeing the needle on the rpm gauge flicker on the higher regions on the gauge. I understand that visibility is increased without the dash, but sometimes the conventional dashboard is a work of art.

Not the biggest fan of the design, but the self driving capability makes it tempting. Not that it matters anyways I won't be able to afford one for a while despite it's reasonable price lol

The plan is to be out of the house by mid 2017 and many estimations expect the car to be out around one year later. Will this give enough time to settle my budget and incorporate the new expense?

The fact that I live very close to the Fremont factory may help with the delivery time, but I was using an early estimate as a worst-case scenario for my budget.

Get your $1,000 back and put it towards a rental deposit. I just don't understand how supposedly grown 'adults' are still living at home with their parents. Why are you doing that?

If you don't know who the sucker is at the table, it's you.

I thought I was doing something intelligent... especially living in the Bay Area. The average rent for a one-bedroom apartment is 2,000 (probably on the low side). It's probably not very smart to move out until I absolutely need to. Despite your belief that I must leave the home as quickly as possible, it's quite reasonable to stay put for the time being.

That's WAY too much car for a recent grad, especially one still living with their parents and in a high COL city who SOUNDS like they want to live in a nicer area without roommates. You're going to have to prioritize some things, and car should not be high on that list.

To be more helpful and less judgmental, when is the latest you can cancel? If there's no pressing need, then set yourself a challenge. Live WAY below your means for the next year, and see if you have the financial discipline to make that expensive car work. And by way below your means, I mean a savings rate that's 50% plus. If you can do that, then you can take on that expensive of a car this early in your financial life. If you end up going out to eat, buying shots, buying nice clothes, and money just "seems to disappear" and you can't stick to a budget, do yourself a favor and pick a cheaper car.

Thank you for the constructive criticism! I will have the ability to cancel the reservation all the way up until the time of production, so a little bit more than a year...

I think I can maintain a 50% savings rate in my current situation. Actually I'm saving at a rate a little higher than that right now. I'm not a flashy person who spends money on clothes and bottle service at the club. I already have a gf, so I'm not trying to impress anyone. The eventual goal is to move in with her, that is why I balk at the thought of moving in with another roommate and potentially having to break the lease.

I lease a Mercedes that would considered way above my means (cars the partners at my firm drive), but you know what? I love cars, and I've loved this car for a long time. So I went for it even though it wasn't the most "financially sensible" thing to do. If you love Tesla's and owning would mean a lot to you, then go for it! Life is meant to be enjoyed not modeled out via budgeting spreadsheets. When you die it's all gone anyways.

Save as much as you can and if worst case scenario you finance it to make it work.

Agree with this post - life is too short to not enjoy the things that make you happy, even if they might be a little bit financially irresponsible. Who cares that you'll be living with your parents right out of college... If I had parents in NYC I wouldn't have thought twice about living with them when I was starting out. Ignore the naysayers and just do what will make you happy. Try and be logical and practical about what you purchase, but saving on rent will allow you to more easily cover the cost of the car.

Probably enough on the should you have/should you not have. It's never smart to buy an asset (henceforth a liability) assuming you'll have the money to pay it off...

Anyway, Federal Tax Credit of 7500 (I think) expires after first 200k are sold (done). But each state has it's own, and wouldnt surprise me if there are more Federal credits that come out. I'm also going to buy one, but TSLA has been pretty terrible at getting the first generation right, so I'll let them work out the kinks.

Also have to consider cost of installing a home charger - gotta have one to be cool.

Stupid move kiddo. If you have a place, right on, but you live at home with mom and dad. Furthermore, can you also afford the few thousand bucks it will cost to upgrade your electric panel to handle a dedicated 50 amp breaker to charge the thing? Ya you should prioritize your life dude. How many young kids do you know that are buying a house and a car without help from mommy and daddy? you should handle your life and drive a fkn beater first

Whenever you're on the right path, the universe will shovel you shit, and you must turn it into compost

Model 3 is cool but I just can't comprehend paying that much for it ($40-50k after options idk?). I can get a 3 year old M3 for "about" the same price with 20-30k miles, and it will sound a hell of a lot better in the E92. But I mean if you are not an enthusiast type person, you wouldn't care. Tesla are taking down globs of new RE space though and a lot of their suppliers with them too.
