First Time WSO Resume Review

This is my first time having a resume reviewed on WSO so all input would be greatly appreciated.

I am currently completing my third year of an co-op undergraduate program at a school in Canada. Looking to break into finance - I have had two internships so far that have been very accounting focused, but my interest really lies in finance.

Is there any way I can pitch my work experience towards more of a finance related position? Any obvious changes I need to be making? Again, any input is appreciated!

Ditch the profile section.

Take your high school off unless you went to Uppper Canada College or Appleby or some shit. I would also take off the TA experience if you can't spin it as being finance related.

Queens btw? Only business program in Canada that one could say is good that's a B.Comm and not BBA.

Thanks for the tips.

Yeah, the TA position can't be spun as finance related - it is for an organizational behaviour course. And no, not Queens. Considered it but I was drawn to a school with a pretty active co-op program instead.

Thanks again!

Also, be VERY careful of saying that you're proficient in Excel/SAP/Oracle. SAP is a monumental program and the people who consider themselves experts get paid 100K+ just because they can use it. You're gonna get called out if you say that you're "proficient" so be prepared for such.

You have some strong attributes but also a good deal of fluff in your current resume. You have to realize that those reading resumes are reading dozens or hundreds at a time and you need to stand out quickly. My main concern is that your positive attributes are being clouded by all the mediocre fluff. A few other notes you might want to consider:

The whole "profile" section is a waste of space, I would cut all but the program proficiency stuff and put that under the skills ,activities, and interests portion. The first four lines sound like they are taken directly from a book on what people think an interviewer would want to hear. Remove the high school info, nobody will care and it takes up space. Where is your GPA? If you don't advertise a GPA it is usually assumed that it is terrible. Ditch the camp supervisor and Lead hockey instructor lines, you can add them under interests. You might want to ditch the teaching assistant line as well. Having your most relevant experience first is usually recommended and being a TA is not very impressive. Put the community service portion into the activities section. Fold the honors and awards into your education and cut the High school athletic letter
