What did you do in your previous summers for internships? What was your gpa? How did you get an interview? Referral?
I did a sophomore internship at a long only fund and a junior internship on the credit arm of a well known PE fund. Went into the credit internship knowing I wanted to do banking
Oh so you’ve got good experience then. GPA? Referral for bank?
How is BAML treating you?
🙈
What cov. group? NY or SF based?
I’d rather not say but not FIG/RE/NRG
What is the hardest part about working on FIG deals?
Do you intend on staying in banking or did you/will you recruit for exit opportunities?
Only way I’d say in banking for 3-5 years is if I’m at Centerview. I’m looking to leave ASAP. I was/am a huge finance hardo (I know) so I made banking this holy land in my mind but I haven’t really learned that much. I’ve only been on 1 live m&a deal so we’ll see but I’m going to do oncycle this year.
Really? I keep hearing there's a steep learning curve
Did you ever think of recruiting for rx or lev fin?
Yup, I really tried to get a Moelis/CVP so I could do m&a and Rx but it didn’t work. I personally viewed m&a as a better starting point for what I want to achieve but want to try to do something related to Rx before i leave
why do you think you didn't get an offer at moelis? any tips for those looking to rx recruit?
Whats your firm's plan for covid? I have friends at BBs and so I might already know what your firm is doing but just curious about when you guys are returning, if there is a plan at all
Honestly not sure. I talked to a few mds and they don’t want to come back until 2021 at the earliest so they told me it’s okay to wait to get an apartment. I got super lucky and didn’t get a place so I’m saving a lot now
Ok thanks. Thats kinda where my MM and some of the BBs my friends are at stand as well. Seems like 2021 is almost certain by now. And good play holding off on the apartment. I pay a lot for an apartment I'm not even in because I have been staying outside of NY various places since May.
How did you compete with those recruiting for the full time role with prior banking internship experience? (Not shitting on your background)
Network, network, network. I also studied the shit out of technicals
how's work right now? how busy are you? how many deals are you staffed on? still doing mostly data room/admin stuff or working more in ppt/excel?
i just started and so far its mostly admin stuff
Brutal. I feel a bit lost and getting help hasn’t worked. I’m on 1 live deal and a bake off
yup i just got thrown onto 1 live deal yesterday but so far no real work yet. just sitting at my desk waiting for work lol
Thoughts on coverage vs product? What has been you experience like in coverage?
