First year law student, any point in applying for analyst jobs targeted at UGs for the summer?
Hello everyone, just joined here, been lurking on and off for a while.
Anyway I'm a first year student at at T14 law school looking for a summer job. I'm 99% sure I want to do 5-8 in biglaw then move into finance (assuming I don't make partner...) I did fairly well grade wise my first semester (roughly top 1/3). I've already applied to SA positions/interviewed at a few biglaw firms, but those are next to impossible to land as a 1L. I've also applied to internships targeted at law students at a few hedge funds/BBs, and some more general corporate law positions, but those are pretty uncommon as well.
A lot of people do public interest/government stuff 1L year, but I'd really prefer to do something finance related if I can't get an SA at a biglaw firm. Didn't major in finance in UG, but was 3 foreign language credit hours short of finishing a degree in econ (smart right?) So I ended up majoring in poli sci but have a pretty good background in econ/stats and using Excel/SPSS/Eviews. Also I've interned at a bankruptcy law firm, not sure if that matters though.
So is there any point in applying for analyst positions that are targeted at undergrads? I know they're really hard to land, but I'd rather get something finance related on my resume than do some random public interest internship, especially since I want to move into finance long term. Just wondering if its worth applying at all.
Edit: should probably also mention my UG isn't nearly as impressive as my law school, GPA was 3.66
Pretty sure goldman summer associate PWM hires t14 students
Just looked it up and they do, thanks
