First Year Summer Internship Prospects
I'm a first year student at Queen's Commerce (Canadian target school) and I've been actively looking for a business-related summer job. I'm looking to break into IB/Consulting upon graduation. I hope someone can provide me some advice and input as to how I should go about searching for a job that will be viewed favorably by future employers.
So a bit about myself:
I have a 3.7 GPA and I'm an active executive member on two business-related committees on campus. Outside of school I volunteer extensively but I've never had a paid employment position.
What I've done so far:
I've tapped into all my connections (including close family at CIBC) but nothing worked out. Tried applying through job boards, HR portals, etc, then cold emailed/called ~150 AM, PWM and PE firms in Toronto. I also applied to non-finance jobs in marketing and business development but that didn't work out either.
I feel that I've exhausted my resources and it's become pretty discouraging that after 5 months of job searches nothing has come up. I know that it is difficult for first years to land a solid summer job but I'm still hopeful.
Any input is greatly appreciated!
