FLDP Travel

Something that I haven't actually been able to find an answer for. I've accepted I'm just not the IB type, nor do I want to work the hours, but I'm a good enough student with a 3.7 GPA going to a semi-target, so I've been looking to fldps.

Are rotations in fldps normally all in different locations, or the same location? Does it vary depending on the firm? If there are these rotational location changes, are they normally required or optional?

It depends on the firm. I have some friends that have worked in programs that were 24 months with three 8 month rotations and others in two 12 month rotations. They typically chose to move for at least one of the rotations. Sometimes it isn't much of an option and you have to. It's variable...

I don't know why you got shit on, this sounds spot on from what I've seen doing research on them.

It is. Whoever threw shit doesn't know anything about FLDPs.

I'm friends with someone who did a F500 FLDP. His first year was spent in the corporate office and following year he was traveling literally all over the world. I'm talking NYC/ Hong Kong/ London/ and even Israel. Granted he got lucky with the group he rotated into as that kind of stuff is rare, but it happens.

Alright, there are a few points here i'll address. But first keep in mind that it does vary firm to firm.

You'll see FLDPs that are 2 years and some that are 3 years. Anywhere from 3-4 rotations. At some firms you might do all your rotations in the corporate HQ and never really travel. In a lot of firms (this is most common) you'll have the opportunity to do rotations in different offices around the country. So you might end up moving every 6-12 months (this is what i've done).

As far as traveling for rotations, that doesn't happen much, but there are a few instances where it does. Obviously if you get into the audit group or a corporate strategy consulting team you may be traveling A TON. But it's just those groups. Some other jobs such as an M&A rotation or a program finance rotation require occasional travel to be at a certain site but not a lot. Specifically program it may short travel (2 hour drive to a construction site your program is at from your HQ office).

Most CF jobs don't travel. And FLDPs are just moving around CF jobs. So I wouldn't expect much travel. But, as I stated above, it does happen.

This is basically true.

My F500 the only rotation where you travel is audit. That travel is pretty random based on the specific engagements.

However, almost everyone relocates away from the Corporate office for 1 or 2 of their 4 rotations. These locations are predominately Europe, with a few in the US, and some Asia.

Our typical FLDP does 2 or 3 rotation at the HQ with no travel (except audit) and 1 or 2 rotations where they're relocated, but not traveling day to day.

I think this is pretty typical.

Damn, international rotations? That's pretty awesome, I haven't seen/heard of many companies that do that.
