FLDP -- Where's the L?

I am interested in pursuing corporate finance long-term. However, when I read threads on here about FLDPs, most people seem to say you will not climb more than a few levels if you don't have IB experience. What I'd like to ask is, why do firms have Finance LEADERSHIP Development Format if they don't use them to develop actual "leaders"?

I'm not sure what threads you're reading, but any half-decent FLDP that has been around for >20 years tends to place a ton of alumni into internal leadership. At least at my company, over half of exec level finance staff are from my program. And many more have exited to become exec staff at other F250 firms. As far as I know, we don't have any ex-bankers in the vanilla corp fin leadership. We certainly have them in our corp dev/corp strat groups though.
