Follow-up Etiquette (Networking)

Wondering what all your thoughts are on following up after networking with Analysts/Associates/VPs when they say they will speak to HR for you/put your name in for you. Is it right to follow up and ask how they went speaking to HR or should you just leave them? If you don't follow up, how will you ever know if you're on the 'interview list' or not?

Would be good to hear from current Analysts/Associates/VPs. Is it annoying or does it show good initiative?
