Following Up after being Waitlisted

Hello, I would appreciate some advice for my current situation.

About 2 weeks ago, I interviewed at a BB for an off-cycle (structured) internship opportunity, I didn't do as well as I hope for the technical questions (which I regret not being better prepared) but I think I did okay for the behavioral questions. I was informed that the process consist of 2 more rounds, one with VPs/Associates and the last round with MDs.

I haven't heard back from HR, so I am assuming that I am being waitlisted. Is there anything I could do to improve my chances? I understand it is more dependent on the other candidates' decisions rather than anything to do with me. Would emailing be any use? If so, what should I highlight in my email?

Thank you.

What I did when I was waitlisted was follow up expressing that you are still very interested and excited in the opportunity. I mentioned I hadn't heard back, was still excited, and would love to know how to improve my situation I did so with the analyst in charge of the recruiting process and with most people I interviewed with. It's also worth noting I did not get the position I was seeking so take my advice with a grain of salt.

Thank you for the reply! (my first reply in WSO, haha, SB!) I appreciate it. I am new to IB recruitment, and just thought of another question: Is it normal to be waitlisted for the next round of interview? I would assume that it is common to be waitlisted for the final decision, but I am not sure for the individual stages of the interview.
