For the brave souls that made it...
I am new to the forum but have been lurking for a while. This forum has been very informative, and has helped me decide to change careers into IB. Since I don't have a "traditional" background like most of the bankers on here seem to have, I was planning on using an MBA to break into the industry.
I would love to hear from those that have been able to transition careers into IB...specifically those that used an MBA program. In addition, I know how much harder one has to work to transition when coming from a PT MBA program, but any advice on how to break in from a PT program would also be appreciated. Thank you in advance!
p.s. I've used the "search" function greatly and have found a lot of useful info. Just wanted to get more/ new feedback from other members.
i think going from part time may be nigh impossible seeing as the school's are beginning to segregate those who are full time and part time from career services.. look at booth nyu etc or any typically strong finance schools
If you dont have a banking background you will need the internship and many part time programs dont have summer internship. Part time MBA's are not reccomended for career changers, its more for people who want to accelerate their careers, i.e someone in corp banking who wants to get a job in their firms ibanking dept.
The other thing to consider is an age factor, most part time programs will take you almost 4 years, Im not sure how old you are exactly but alot of ibanks are not going to want to hire someone as a first year associate who is into their early or mid 30's the reason being that they realize that you probably won't be as keen to work yourself into the ground.
But if you are in a part-time program already use the networking and alumni resources at your school to try and land an analyst position or something that will give you solid experience while you complete your MBA.
thank you guys for your feedback...this is the general concensus on this forum from what I have searched. I am not in the program yet, but I have applied to a couple of PT programs.
Question in regards to Associate hiring for MBA grads...do firms only hire Associates through the recruitment process? Or is it possible to apply outside these OCR events? I know that these recruiting events is the main source of hiring, but was curious to see if they do consider outside applications. Thanks again.
Im not in ibanking . . . yet, so im not the best guy to ask if you can be succesful applying through non OCR channels (i am sure there are examples of people doing it) but if you do look at the bank websites they have sections for graduates to apply, I am assuming this is to accomodate for grads who are not at their target school.
